Sakai LMS

Purpose

Community-developed LMS for higher education, course delivery, assessment, collaboration and LTI integration.

Decision Summary

Mature higher-education candidate, but specialist Java operations make it unsuitable as CSI's default small-client LMS.

Use Cases

Universities, colleges, course sites, assignments, tests, grading, discussions and academic collaboration.

Field Notes

Confirm exact JDK/database/container matrix. Stage upgrades and load-test before an academic-term change window.

Hardware Requirements

Supported JDK, servlet/application container, relational database, content storage, search/index service, SMTP and production monitoring; size for institutional concurrency.

Backup Strategy

Database, content storage, config, custom tools, integrations, certificates, app artifacts and index rebuild procedure.

Recovery Strategy

Recreate matching JDK/container/Sakai version, restore DB/content, rebuild indexes and test SSO, LTI, grading and notifications.

Secure Boot Notes

Not directly applicable to this web/server platform. Keep Secure Boot enabled on supported host OS or hypervisor and use signed host components.
